Earlier this month Dr. Maria Fadri organized a stream clean-up on the Northern Campus. I used the opportunity to enroll some of my BIO 111 General Biology students and lo and behold seven showed up!
Let’s back up a second though, yes I am a faculty now! And I’m so excited to have this job it’s not even funny. Can you believe that they pay me, yes me, to teach biology at a Community College?! Pretty amazing if you ask me. The place: Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. The students, preparing to transfer to a university or simply developing their skills and of all ages. Every day I am so thankful for this opportunity and I work tirelessly to meet the needs of my students to the best of my abilities. With every day comes a new lesson thanks to the numerous interactions I have with them and the staff here at Wake Tech. It has been and still is a blast!
Back to the stream cleaning day though, Biogen had a “Care Deeply Volunteer Day” and Maria organized the clean-up with some Biogen employees and the Life Sciences department. Thanks a bunch to her for her work and to all who showed up. I don’t have a picture, but the loot was huge including car tire, bike rim, and many many trash. I’m thinking about organizing something similar on Southern Campus in the Spring now … wait and see!
