Outreach - Weird Science Night
A quick post to thank Makayla Dean and Zoe Dapore, both undergraduate working with me in the lab. They single(double?)-handedly carried on the lab outreach participation in the Weird Science Night event! They had a blast and once again the crayfish were in high demand!
Note that Zoe and Makayla do not just show up and handle the crayfish booth. On top of that they’ve been working with crayfish who died in the lab for dry preparation and presentation to the public. This is a great idea because most of the people are OK petting a live crayfish, but some don’t want to; thus, the crayfish prep comes in handy in those cases.
Once again, a big thank to Makayla and Zoe as well as to the parents who organized this event led by David Kaiser. I am particularly attached to those outreach events because they are an essential part of our work as educators and scientists. We’re giving back to the community and making it a better place a little bit at a time with everyone else, bottom line, we’re doing our part.
